Matlock is found in Derbyshire on the summit of the Peak District National Park and is only about 20 miles away from Derby. Its real character emerged when John Smedley born in 1803 established the Hydrotherapy in Matlock and made it into one of the most celebrated centres for the treatment of ailments with water therapy in the country. This in turn created a need for Matlock hotels and all types of hotels were welcomed from business Hotels, five star deluxe hotels, the grand country hotels, to boutique hotels.

It is a beautiful town with a calmly relaxed atmosphere enhanced by the water and described through a stunning collection of 18th and 19th century Regency villas evocative of a seaside resort without the sea, the introduction of the railways in the 1840's of course dramatically increased the town's popularity and the need for Holiday and business accommodation. The town is divided into two parts the South Parade and the North Parade. The town is quite unique and strangely reminiscent of a European town as it comes to life at night where Venetian Nights include illuminated boats on the river.

There are many visitor attractions and include a cable car ride to the top of the High Top where a 60 acre country park exhibits a spectacular multimedia show, fantastic view and underground tours of two caves, Rutland Cavern and the Great Masson Cavern. Gulliver's Kingdom and the Royal Cave is a family theme Parks and offers hours of enjoyment, history enthusiasts may enjoy a tour of the Cromford Mill and the world's first Water powered cotton mill.
